Level of qualification: Level 1 and 2

What will the students learn about?

Mathematics is now broken down into six areas, these are the areas the students will gain knowledge in:

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Ratio, proportion and rates of change
  • Geometry and measures
  • Probability
  • Statistics

What skills will students develop and demonstrate?

Students will:

Develop fluent knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts.

Acquire, select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems.

Reason mathematically, make deductions and inferences, and draw conclusions.

Comprehend, interpret and communicate mathematical information in a variety of forms appropriate to the information and context.

How will students’ learning be assessed?

Students will sit a total of three examination papers:

Paper 1 – Non calculator

Paper 2 – Calculator

Paper 3 - Calculator

What grades can students achieve?

Students will achieve grades from 9 – 1 (9 being the highest)

After completing this course – what can students progress on to?

All college and sixth form courses require a pass in maths for progression to a Level 2/3 course.  A Level maths will require a student achieving a high grade (a 7, 8 or 9)
